Last week IE members Miguel Angel Sicilia and Leonardo Lezcano attended the 2nd STELLARnet Alpine Rendez-Vous at La Clusaz, in the French alps. They participated in the dataTEL workshop (Data Sets for Technology Enhanced Learning) where Miguel Angel presented an overview of the practicalities and pitfalls on doing empirical research on recommender systems in learning object repositories, based on the experiences of the group so far. Also, he gave an advance of the latest results on the evaluation of different recommender algorithms available in Apache Mahout in that context.
The main goals of the event were to indentify and advance emerging topics, methodologies and technologies, and create a shared space within and beyond STELLAR. It was a great opportunity for the IE members to meet some colleagues, like Hendrik Draschler, whose field of research is already related to the IE group, but also to find new interesting challenges within the TEL domain.
