SemaGrow 3rd project meeting in Wageningen

The 3rd plenary meeting of European Project SemaGrow took place in Wageningen (The Netherlands) on 12th and 13rd of May 2014. Alberto Nogales researcher of IERU group assisted representing Alcalá University. Organized by partnert DLO (Stichting Dienst Landbouwkundig Onderzoek), the meeting took place at Alterra premises in the Wageningen University campus. The meeting started with a brain storming about how to cover the improvements noted by the reviewers after the first project review on January 2014. Then progresses in SemaGrow architecture and Ontology Evolutionwere were presented by NCSR-D and UNITOV respectively.

Finally the Piloting Plan and Deployment where discussed by all the consortium in order to face the next period until the 4th plenary meeting to be organized in Athens during October 2014. We keep on researching.

Semagrow 1st review meeting in Luxembourg

The first review of the project “SemaGrow: Data intensive techniques to boost the real-time performance of global agricultural data infrastructures” took place last week in Luxembourg, specifically during the 20th and 21st of January. IERU group from Alcalá University was represented by Miguel Angel Sicilia and Alberto Nogales. The review was coordinated by NCSR Demokritos from Athens with the help of Alcalá University. The others partners presenting some Work Packages were FAO  and UniTov from Italy, IPB from Serbia, the Semantic Web Company from Austria, DLO from The Netherlands and AgroKnow from Greece. Miguel Angel Sicilia as main coordinator of the project explained WP2 about Project Management.

At first sight the review was successful, promising hard work during the second year of the project.

3rd Semagrow meeting in Alcala

The 3rd plenary meeting of the European project SemaGrow took place in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) during 21st and 22nd of October. As work place of IERU group; Miguel Angel Sicilia, Jakkoo Lappalainen and Alberto Nogales organized it and of course attended to it. The magnificent building of the Faculty of Law, an old College and church dating back to the XVth century, hosted the meeting and welcomed the SemaGrow consortium members. During the meeting, several Work Packages (those about architecture or experimentation) were discussed with an special focus.

SemaGROW 2nd Project meeting at Rome + LINQ2013 conference

IERU members Miguel-Angel Sicilia, Jaakko Lappalainen and the new member Alberto Nogales, attended the 2nd biannual meeting of this project in Rome. The host of this meeting was the Universitá di Roma Tor Vergata the first two days, and the rest was hosted by FAO at their headquarters in the downtown of Rome.

During the sessions, the partnership went deeper on design issues on the project and presented the status of several deliverables. The work on SemaGROW keeps on going!

Also Miguel-Angel Sicilia gave a keynote speech… the future of the world seems to be decided here at FAO!

7th VOA3R Meeting & LINQ Conference

This whole week, several IE members (Miguel Angel, David Martin, Salvador, Jaako and Alberto) flew to Rome to attend the 7th VOA3R project meeting and the LINQ 2013 Conference taking place in the FAO premises in this beautiful city.

The meeting was specially focused on the portal update, demonstrating the improvements and new functionalities implemented during the last period, as well as in examining the progress of the content integration and population task.It is relevant to mention the VOA3R – Semagrow Stakeholder joint Meeting that was held during the second day of the meeting.

As for the LinQ conference, it was aimed at addressing Innovations and Quality in Lifelong Learning, Education and Training: potential points of access to this field include new learning methods and design, Technology-Enhanced Learning, quality standards and certification, human resources development, competences and skills, digital resources, learning materials, and online collaboration and communities. Several projects in which our team is involved were presented (e.g. Organic.Lingua and VOA3R) as well as several papers coauthored by members of the team.
